How to roast Garlic in your oven
Roasted Garlic pinit

Want to learn how to roast garlic in your oven? Easy as Pie? No! much easier!

Roasted Garlic is a great addition to a lot of fantastic recipes – soups, compound butters, mashed potatoes, pasta sauces, you name it. You can serve them as an appetizer or add to hummus. Or you can just eat the juicy and squishy cloves straight out of the garlic head.

Roasting garlic changes the chemical makeup of the garlic so that it’s easier to digest. You can eat a lot more garlic if it is completely cooked, with fewer side effects than you would get from eating raw garlic. (If you’re into chemistry, you can read more about this process in the Wikipedia.)

It will stay in the fridge for about 2 weeks but don’t push it. It is so easy to make, just make some new fresh ones. Fresh is the best.

Ingredients to make roasted garlic

  1. Preparation

    Preheat your oven to 400°F (205° C).

Peel and discard the papery outer layers of the whole garlic bulb. Leave intact the skins of the individual cloves of garlic.
Using a sharp knife, cut 1/4 to a 1/2 inch from the top of cloves.
Place in a piece of aluminum foil that is large enough to cover the entire bulb. Pull up the sides.
Drizzle olive oil over the top of all the garlic heads. You may also want to sprinkle with some salt and pepper. Or perhaps another herb?  Close the top and place in the oven to roast.
It should take about 45 minutes but you should check at 40 minutes to make sure it is not over cooking. They are ready when they are just slightly browning. Don't let them brown to much.
Take out the oven and let cool for 10 minutes.
  2. How to take them out

Be careful when you take them out because they are mushy and you do not want to miss any of their magic flavor. You can squeeze the cloves from the bottom by pinching them and the cloves should just slide out. Either that of use a small spoon and scoop them out. Once they are out you can mash them up real easy or just eat them right now!
